The film
Upon rising to power in Germany in 1933, Adolf Hitler established concentration camps to imprison opponents of his regime. In less than ten years, these deadly prisons gave rise to extermination centers, the stages for a brutality and genocide unique in history. How did these camps become the tools of a regime designed to annihilate those the Reich no longer wanted? Why does history distinguish extermination centers from concentration camps? Drawing on the latest historical research, the film shows how, in ten years, a concentration camp system became the rationalized apparatus of a genocide. It was produced with the support of the Fondation pour la Mémoire de la Shoah and the USHMM.
