ExoMars, The Impossible Mission

The film

Launched in the early 2000s, the European Martian rover project ExoMars was an enormous gamble that quickly proved far more complex than anticipated. Over twenty years, the program was plagued by technological difficulties and by economic, health, and political crises, until the fatal blow of 2022. Thanks to exclusive access to the mission and the testimonies of those who brought it to life, including French astronaut Thomas Pesquet, the film recounts how the dream of finding life on Mars became a long-term technical and scientific challenge, still unachieved. It extends François Pomès’ first film on the mission, for which he followed the teams from 2014 until the launch in Kazakhstan.
