Nearly 500 million Camemberts are sold every year in France. While this historical monument of French gastronomy maintains its artisanal image, the reality is quite different. Between PDO, “Made in Normandy,” and “100% Normandy milk,” confusion reigns from market stalls to supermarket shelves. Authentic Normandy Camembert, bearing the PDO label, accounts for less than 5% of sales.
